A migraine usually feels as if the pain is poking on one side of the head. Many people also experience symptoms of nausea, vomiting, being sensitive to light or sound. In the UK, migraine headaches are experienced by about one in five women and about one in 15 men, usually beginning in early adulthood. There are several types of migraines:

The exact cause of migraine is unknown, but it appears to be caused by temporary changes in the brain’s chemicals and nerves and blood vessels. About half of those who have experienced migraines are related to this situation, which may have a genetic effect.

There is no cure for migraines, but there are many treatments that reduce symptoms.

Port vomit: medications used to reduce nausea and vomiting
Sleeping or lying down in a dark room may be helpful when you have a migraine.
